Understanding Japanese assessment tests
Today, more than 100 million people speak Japanese around the world. Whether in a professional or educational context, learning this language requires going through a curriculum and assessments leading to a certification. There are also various methods for evaluating the linguistic competence of a candidate in Japanese (JLPT). The examination, among other things, will determine their ability to speak (pronunciation, intonation, fluency, understanding ...) and write (grammar, vocabulary ...). According to their results, the candidates will be classified into different categories:
- A1 and A2: the person can comprehend basic vocabulary in Japanese and can interact in the most common situations of everyday life. The courses last about 3 months.
- B1 and B2: The person uses advanced vocabulary in Japanese and can lead a discussion in situations that require a better command of the language. In 4 months of training, they will be able to communicate with native people without problems in writing or speaking.
- C1 and C2: After 5 months of training, the learner completely masters the vocabulary of specialized Japanese. They now are able to comprehend the written as well as the oral aspects without effort by speaking Japanese fluently and accurately. They will also be able to identify and express fine nuances on complex subjects while taking into account the logical structure of each sentence.
Since the majority of these test evaluations use the same process based on the CERCR, it can be difficult to determine the right formula to achieve a better proficiency level in Japanese . Fortunately, modern technology offers innovative insights to facilitate a person’s integration in another language
