Luciana joined our Pipplet examiner community with over 10 years of experience. She developed her passion for linguistics when she started learning English as a foreign language years ago. As a senior-level linguistics professional holding extensive knowledge and experience grading using the CEFR, she’s able to identify how clearly and spontaneously a person can interact in a given language.

Quick Tipplet 1: Quick and robust. This was the philosophy when developing Pipplet tests. The goal was to cover all the necessary elements of language assessment, touching all four language skills. 


What do you think makes the Pipplet test special?

 

Despite being short and quick, the test is as thorough as it can be. It stimulates test-takers to explore all the principal areas of language skills - listening, reading, speaking, and writing. However, the test also explores vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation which can be important for recruiters hiring candidates that’ll be required to interact quite often with professional clients. I also like their linguistics team formats questions for a variety of routine topics. This makes the test manageable and flexible enough for language learners at any level of fluency. Nevertheless, those at more advanced levels have the chance to demonstrate their skills by giving more complex and longer responses.


 

Quick Tipplet 2: Pipplet is a language assessment service that identifies how well a person can interact in a given language, for professional purposes. Our  range of language tests provides recruitment teams with vital data on their candidates to support improved hiring success and the identification of identifying cultural fit.

What do you enjoy most about working with the Pipplet team?


I like the fast response to my queries. I'm also glad that we are able to easily report bugs in the test tool, which doesn't happen very often because the system has improved a lot over time.

 

How has working with Pipplet changed your approach to teaching?

 

When correcting tests, I find it so interesting to read and listen to candidates speak from so many nationalities. The responses are usually well-elaborated, so I have been able to learn a lot from not only the test-takers' errors but mostly their strategies used to give responses.

 

Quick Tipplet 3: Pipplet assesses more than just reading skills. We advocate for a holistic assessment because this supports a better comprehension of skills. We assess how well people speak, write, listen and read. Test takers have the option to skip questions if they wish, but ultimately, we believe our full-spectrum assessment tests will support greater confidence.

 

In the end, would you recommend the Pipplet test for corporate recruiters? Why?

 

Yes, I would definitely recommend it. As an assessor, I went through a careful application process and Pipplet assessors are expected to have at least an MA in linguistics or related-area. Additionally, after correcting so many tests, our knowledge and assessment accuracy can only get better and more refined.
