The Examiner's Corner is a part of a short 20-episode blog series launched by Pipplet, and it is for you! Get to know the experts behind the Pipplet results report, their expertise, and why they love being a part of and contributing to the Pipplet brand. This is episode 1.
Quick Tipplet 1: Developing an easy-to-follow review process when our language examiners receive a number of language tests is essential to being efficient, adaptable, and helps mitigate any risk that could lead to errors.
When a new test alert comes through, what is the first thing you do when you receive a new Pipplet test to grade?
When I receive a new Pipplet test, I tend to start from the top and work my way down. In a detailed test, I also note the strengths and weaknesses as I go. This helps when I am selecting things the candidate did well and things they need to work on in the test feedback.
Quick Tipplet 2: Outlining strengths and weaknesses on our Pipplet results report is one of many significant components corporate recruiters review to determine whether any specific comments are fundamental to a position’s job success.
Quick Tipplet 3: Pipplet is the new standard for language assessment because our tests were designed to challenge the current standardized method of language testing.
As a linguistics professional, what do you think makes the Pipplet test special?
I particularly like that the test is open and the candidate can give as much or as little as they are able to in each response. I mostly appreciate that the tests are validated and that if we are not getting things right we are informed about this which encourages us to question ourselves and justify our work. This way we keep our standards up to what they should be and everyone gets a fair result.
In the end, why would you recommend the Pipplet test for corporate recruiters and language learning centers?
For the same reasons I mentioned above - I particularly like that the test is open and the candidate can give as much or as little as they are able to in each response, as such, examiners are able to provide relevant feedback on the candidate's actual production of the testing language, and not just their ability to answer 'yes' or 'no' questions.
Quick Tipplet 4: Communication is the cornerstone of any successful business which is why our Pipplet Tests challenge test-takers on core communication skills in each language test. Our tests use an open-ended, role-play, testing method allowing your candidates to speak as they would in any natural, professional environment. Although we allow a minimum amount of time for each question, in order for our assessors to be able to evaluate candidates using enough content, ultimately, it’s about how clearly they respond to questions and annunciate their responses professionally.
